The source I used is an article from Buzzfeed called, “The 31 Realest Tumblr Posts About Being A Woman”. It is article that is basically a compilation of tumblr posts detailing feminism and society in a humorous way. I chose this source because I feel like it helped me form my topic (feminism) in a humorous, but at the same time non-offensive way. The source uses humor by addressing the topic with sarcasm and sometimes sexual themes. I feel like humor was used well because it, caught my attention; was effective; and insightful.
This source used humor well by grabbing my attention. It grabbed my attention when it refers to a current issues women face like, rape. It said, ”funny that men mock women going everywhere in groups, but were not supposed to go out alone otherwise we might be blamed for our own rape or our own murder. In this post it basically adressed how women constantky get blamed for their own distress and they only way they will be safe is with others. This grabbed my attention because it was able to talk about a serious issue while still using a hint of sarcasm. I feel like this article was also effective when it talked about how people respect women and what standards they have to go by to earn that respect. It says that people use respect with only women who they feel deserve it.”I've noticed that people confuse respects women with respects women considered respectable.”This made me really think about how true this is and how this isn't normally addressed as it should be. Many people may not see this as a problem but when you have to justify whether a woman deserves respect or not, there is a real issue. Lastly I chose this source because it was insightful. It was insightful in the way that there are double standards when it comes to men and women and certain situations in life. The example they used was about the “male gaze”.What the male gaze is,is it is when women basically come the “object of a man’s gaze. What the male example was stating was that usually straight men would feel uncomfortable if they had to share a locker room with a gay man and be stared at. That is when they say that be started while you're not trying to be sexual is uncomfortable for women as well. This is effective in the sense of showing that usually when there is a situation between men and women, there will most likely be a double standard. Once again my claim was that my source used humor effectively.I feel that it used humor effectively because it:caught my attention, was effective and insightful. The topic I chose is important because in society people like to belittle women and make them look like the lesser gender. What feminism does is bring attention to that and show female empowerment. |
