The open letter I chose was about the racism in a MFA program. What interested me with this letter was the fact that it was an apology that a Latino person made,to racist and stereotypical people. My claim is that the Latino person should not have felt like she should give an apology to the people. My first reason would be that they were racist and stereotypical."I see now that if you write a maid character, OF COURSE she would need to be Mexican".This shows how this specific group of people view all Latinos,as if they are only worth this."You were right to say that because I don’t have an accent I’m not really Latino, just tan".I feel like this is really rude to say that just because someone does not have a accent, they are longer they're ethnicity they are just a few shades darker than you".You opened my eyes when you asked how I could call myself Latino when you, a white person, speaks more Spanish than I do. You are actually way more Latin@ than I am!"Lastly this addresses how people think just because they know a language better than someone who's ethnicity associates with it,you are better then them or can connect with them.I think the humor theory used was incongruent theory. This whole letter is about a person who is Latino addressing a group of people who were rude and stereotypical.Instead of responding angrily this person is apologizing,it seems out of place to apologize for being mistreated.
